What to Expect

Our weekly gatherings for worship are by far the most important thing we do because we tell the story of the Gospel when we worship and by the way we worship.

First time here? We're glad you stopped by.

Whether you are are Christian who is interested in our community, or a skeptic looking for answers, or someone who is struggling with life and looking for a sympathetic community, you are warmly welcome to join us.

Below are some F.A.Q.s - frequently asked questions - about visiting New City Church...

Do I have to be a Christian to come visit New City Church?

No you don't. Though many of us are, we welcome people no matter what their backgrounds or beliefs or honest questions.

We want New City Church to be a place where you can safely explore the teachings of Jesus Christ without pressure. We'd be honored if you'd use the resources of our community to grow in your understanding of yourself, your Creator, and this world.

Do I have to stand up and introduce myself or say something?

No. You can come and simply observe the service if you'd like.

Of course, we'd love the opportunity to meet you. There is an information table, plus coffee and refreshments after the service. There is no pressure to sign up for anything.

What should I wear?

With the weather being as crazy as it is in Calgary, please come comfortably. You will find that people wear whatever they are comfortable in--everything from dresses & ties, to jeans & sneakers, to shorts & sandles.

So our advice is to simply come as you are. You'll fit right in.

What is the worship like?

Worship at New City Church is rich, joyful, and reverent.

When you arrive, you will be given a worship folder which contains an outline for this Sunday's worship service. Here's a sample.

You will notice that we sing a variety of historic & contemporary songs & hymns. Often, we will have guitars & a keyboard for instruments. The morning lesson from the Scripture usually lasts around 25-30 minutes. We observe the Lord's Supper every week.

All in all, we aim for a worship service that lasts for about 75-85 minutes, so we're usually done well before noon. There is a time for refreshments immediately following the service.

Do I have to give money or anything?

During the service, there is an offering which is an opportunity for those who call New City Church their home to support of the ministry of New City and its mission.

There is no pressure or any expecations that you should participate in this offering. You are our guest, and we are delighted to have you visit.

Is there childcare available?

Yes. At the moment, we provide a nursery for children ages 0 up to 3 years of age during the worship service.

All our childcare workers are appropriately screened.
